Me and Trouble

Hi! I'm Krista. Thanks for visiting my site. :-)

I've always been an animal person, most notably a horse person. My mom had me up on a horse before I could ride... so it's all her fault! I've owned a lot of wonderful horses in my time, from my first pony Nibbles when I was about six years old to my current two Quarter Horses.

My bay AQHA gelding is named Sea Deck Go, and we call him Trouble for short. He has been my partner and constant companion for twelve years We compete in O-MOK-SEE, an national organiztion which holds gaming shows all over the country. We've had our ups and downs, but Trouble is a fierce competitor and enjoys his job thoroughly. His favorite class is Western Relay, and mine is Speed Barrels. We are rarely defeated in these two events! ;-)
Pearl is my cremello Quarter Horse mare. Although the AQHA has deleted the rule that prohibited the registry of cremello and perlino purebred QHs, I still haven't been able to get her papers. Unfortunately her dam's owner, like many others, believed that she was just a cast-off when she was born and were very unhappy with her. Now that she can be registered, I just can't seem to get any help from them. Contrary to what many people believe, she is NOT an albino. The gene that causes albinism simply does not exist in horses. Cremellos and perlinos (also known as "double dilutes") are just as healthy as any other horse. They can see just fine, their hooves are strong, they do not sunburn (like horses with white facial markings can burn) and they are not more susceptible to heat stroke than any other horse. Pearl is a wonderful, beautiful mare with an extraordinary work ethic. She's smart, she's fast, and she's patient. I hope to make her my new game horse in the next couple of years.

Did you know that if you breed a cremello to a chestnut, the ONLY color foal you can get is palomino? How cool is that? Double dilutes will always pass one dilute gene on to their offspring, resulting in only buckskin, palomino or smokey black foals when crossed on a non-dilute horse (bay, chestnut or black). Where else can you get a color guarantee like that? These are wonderful, beautiful horses that produce wonderful, beatiful, colorful foals. A GOOD HORSE IS NEVER A BAD COLOR! When I was 14 I was blessed with a phenomenal Paint gelding named Mr Magoos Geronimo. He was a long two year old when he came to live with me. He was my wonder child, my prodigy, my once in a lifetime horse. He had more talent than I have ever seen. Sadly, his life was tragically cut short when he was only four years old. I have no doubt that he would have taken me to the pro rodeo circut, but it just was not meant to be. Instead of being sad because I lost him, I try to just be grateful for each day that I was given with him. Every day was more than I deserved, for sure. There will never be another horse like him.

As I mentioned, I am an animal person, not just a horse person. My husband and I currently have six housepets. We have a red male Betta named Fish (how creative, eh?) who happily resides in a Spongebob Squarepants aquarium. We also have four fat cats! My mom is the former Shelter Director of the local Humane Society, and as long as I can remember we have always had foster litters of puppies and kittens, many of which are orphans. Our first two cats came from an orphaned litter. Butch and Casey are littermates and look nearly identical.... except Butch is a robust 19 pounds and Casey is a trim 16 pounds. For some reason, all of my cats are giants! Tony came next and he is the biggest of them all. He tips the scales at 22 pounds and is not fat at ALL. He's just a really, really big cat. The newest cat in our family is Henry who is up to 15 pounds. ;) Henry literally followed me home one night and is just the sweetest cat I've ever met. Lily is our wonderful, amazing dog. She's a medium-ish sized girl and she looks like an American Eskimo only with short hair. She was seriously abused and neglected as a pup. A Humane Society in South Dakota rescued her when she was seven months old. She was living with a foster family when we met her at a horse show. We took her home with us that weekend and have never regretted it. It was tough at first, but we got past the difficult times and she is an absolutely fantastic dog. There is something special about an animal that's been rescued.

In my free time (HAHA!!), other than my animals, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my family. I also attend as many live model shows as I can get to. I have so much fun with my model horsie friends! I like to watch movies and listen to music, as well as reading Stephen King books. I'm a huge Simpsons geek and I also like to watch Forensic Files (and similar shows) as well as Animal Precinct and all of the Animal Cops shows. If there is "nothing on," you can bet my TV will be on Animal Planet or CourtTV. I love sports too. I'm a die-hard Packer fan (yeah, you can call me a Cheesehead, I don't mind) and a die-hard Duke basketball fan. I love watching many college basketball teams, but I'm pretty rabid when it comes to my Blue Devils I also love hockey, thanks to my former-goalie hubby, with the MN Wild being my favorite team. Oh yeah, and then there's that internet thing that I like to use as entertainment too...

I have a Bachelor of Science from the U of Wisconsin-River Falls in Equine Science. I've had a couple of jobs at horse barns and while I dearly loved the work, it just hasn't worked out for me yet. We're gearing up for a move to South Dakota in the next six months or so, so perhaps I will find a horse job out there. Right now I just don't really know what I want to be when I grow up. I'm blessed to be married to a wonderful tattoo artist who is able to support me temporarily while I try to "find" myself, as they say.

So bring on the tack orders!

Thanks again for stopping by, and have a great day!
