Hug Doc

This adorable filly is Ipi Tombe's fourth foal, a bay filly by Medaglia d'Oro born March 4, 2010. She has been named Hug Doc.

I got to visit Ipi and her MDO filly in late July 2010, and despite the heat, they were such a treat to see. The filly had not yet been weaned, but she was already bigger than her 2009 brother was at the same time the year before.

Ipi was her usual kind, calm, gentle self. She was very polite in her interest in peppermints and was quite content to be petted and photographed and admired.

The filly was spunky, curious, and not at all shy. She even let me smooch her on the nose. And really, who could resist that face and that unique heart-shaped marking?

As a horse color nerd, I can't help but be pleased to see all the chrome on this gal. The Sadler's Wells line is known for throwing interesting sabino markings, and certainly Ipi's filly isn't the only MDO daughter to have a neat blaze.

Hug Doc at the 2011 Keeneland September sale. She RNAed for $575,000.

Despite posting several workouts over the course of two years, Hug Doc never raced. She was sold and bred as a four year-old to Gio Ponti. She is currently being boarded at a farm in Lexington.
